This short form documentary follows the thoughts and reflections of Bunurong man, Dan Turnbull, as he explores the traditional lands of his ancestors, on what is today known as the Mornington Peninsula. The film is a moving tribute to Bunurong culture and heritage, and a profound exploration of what it means to live on Country in the 21st century. Given the environmental challenges facing humans today, understanding our deepest connections to the land, sea, and sky has never been more vital. Bay Country presents a cultural and environmental reflection on a place where the past and present collide, and the future is owned by all.
“Making this film was a true privilege.” Says filmmaker and Managing Director of Remember The Wild, Chris McCormack.
“To be able to listen to Dan’s deep knowledge of the past and learn from his reflections on how we live together today was moving and eye-opening. I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to walk Country with Dan.”
All of us at Remember The Wild express our deepest gratitude to Dan and his family for their immense generosity and making this film possible. Additionally, we sincerely thank the Port Phillip Bay Fund for supporting this project and helping us tell stories that matter.
